My Dear Sir:-
In reply to your favor of the 20th. instant will say that while a few of our native birds are known to sometimes feed upon the Colorado potato bug, both the Rose-breasted Grosbeak and the Bob White or Quail are especially known to feed upon it. Since the potato beetle is native I do not know of any exotic bird that has acquired a taste for it, hence could not recomend the importation of any such bird for the purpose. As long as we have native birds which we know feed on this troublesome insect there is no necessity to run chances on the introduction of any species we are not aquainted with. I enclose herewith a little circular which may suggest to you a method of procedure in your localit if you wish to do a little missionary work along the line of bird protection and insect destruction.
